The natural focal point of Charters Towers is Towers Hill. The highest point in the area at 420 meters, Towers Hill offers beautiful views over the town. Grab some takeaway and head up there in the early evening to watch the sun set.
Walking Path
For those who don't mind a bit of exercise, there are two car parks at the bottom and a walking path to the top of Towers Hill. Along the way are signs explaining some of the history and significance of the area.
History
It is said that this is the area where the young Aboriginal boy Jupiter Mosman first discovered gold in 1872, sparking the start of the goldrush.
While you are at Towers Hill, be sure to check out the immersive experience within the WWII Bunkers half way up the hill on the right.
